News for 2012

There is plenty to look forward to in the year ahead and with a recent upgrade in the vehicle department, I am able to ensure even more comfort for those on tour.

I have added routes for one or two extended itineraries this year based on trips that people have enjoyed over the last couple of seasons. One is a malt whisky centred journey and the others are more of the historical variety.

I will continue to work closely with the best hotels here in Argyll and elsewhere. You will see several of those I recommend on the links page. If you follow up on these and mention that you are booking via Tailored Tours there may be an offer of a discounted rate. I am also developing my ties with the Hebridean Princess, looking after their cruise guests as one of their travel partners.

Speyside and Scotland's Malt Whiskies

One aspect of touring which seems to be growing for me is visiting distilleries. In the last year or two I have done a handful of tours through the Spey valley in the North East, which as a region has the highest concentration of distilleries anywhere in the country. I always used to tell people, when asked, that whisky was not my tipple of choice yet it is a real voyage of discovery to have the chance to hear about - and just occasionally to sample - the extraordinary variety of malt whiskies. The producers of Scotland's biggest export are involved in a real craft and the experience of the staff and guides for visitors to the distilleries is invaluable. I may also be in danger of becoming a convert to the pleasures of a good single malt!

A contrasting whisky experience would be to visit the small Hebridean island of Islay, home to an incredible eight distilleries. Let me know if this appeals!

So, whether you are plannng a mini-break from the cities and are looking for the comfortable seclusion of a Country House hotel or you want to get a taste of the West Highlands and Islands and a glimpse of its rich heritage and history, I will be delighted to help you make the most of your visit to Scotland.
